The Colle Rubinstein (Classical Defense)

Learn this peaceful version of the Colle System where both sides castle early before the center battle begins!

1. Rubinstein (Classical) Setup

This opening follows the main Colle pattern but adds a twist — both players castle fast and fight calmly for the center.

  1. Pawn to d4 – Start strong in the middle.
White builds a home base in the center of the board.
  2. Knight to f3 – Defend and develop.
Your knight protects d4 and gets ready for new moves.
  3. Pawn to e3 – Lock your pawn wall.
Solid and safe — now your bishop can come out!
  4. Bishop to d3 – Point at the black king.
The bishop aims at h7 just like in the main Colle.
  5. Bishop to d6 (Black copies you!)
Now both bishops stare at each other — fun, right?
  6. Castle kingside – Everyone’s safe!
Both kings hide early, and the big fight is about to start.

Goal: Be patient, hold your wall, then strike with e4 when ready.
